Various forms and avatars of guitars are found in the market. One of the most prevalent guitars that exist today is the 7 String Guitars. Although it is used widely in commercial music these days, the concept of having an extra string attached to the conventional 6 String Guitars date back to the renaissance period. The first few 7 String Guitars were made almost 230 years back.

But with changing times, the use of 7 String Guitars became more rampant in the conventional music circuit, mainly due to the acceptance of 7 String Guitars by Brazilian and Russian cultures. With the turn of the millennium, 7 String Guitars found a formidable place in the genre of metal and heavy metal, as experimentation with this form of guitars were carried out by many mainstream bands and solo artists like Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Korn, Metallica, Rush, Muse, Stained, Trivium etc.

7 Sting Guitars are available in multiple variants, like The Brazilian Guitar, The Russian Guitar, The Hollowbody & Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar, Solidbody Electric Guitar, Folk Guitar and Slide Guitar. In case of electric 7 String Guitars, you can use steel, nickel plated, or pure nickel strings. The nickel plated ones are the most common type of strings that come default with electric 7 String guitars, and have a steel core, thus ensuring a better magnetic pull, which can, in turn, enhance the volume electronically. Since there is nickel plating, the strings are saved from corrosion. On the other hand, the pure nickel variant is more suited for mellow and viagra tones; therefore, the electronic output is comparatively less. Stainless steel strings are hard and has good electronic output volume. But it does causes premature wear and tear of the fret.

The cultural variants, used by Brazilians and Russians, have acoustic steel strings. Some of the varieties of acoustic steel strings include Bronze Wound, Phosphor Bronze Wound, and Silk and Steel. Amongst these, the Bronze Wound is the commonest materials present in acoustic 7 String Guitars. When new, this string material can produce the maximum sound, and therefore, is the perfect choice for combos or recordings. But they tend to lose their brightness very fast. But when Phosphor is added to the former, it results in the Phosphor Bronze Wound variant, which is famous for its warm tone and extended life. The last one – Silk and Steel, is the most complicated of them all. It has been designed intricately; nylon filaments surround the steel core. Although these strings can soften the overall volume, in case you want a perfect classical guitar tone, you should opt for it.
